One Wave Behind
The Gauntlet starts one wave behind your best, a roof that fights back, enemies that read you sooner, and the story told three ways.
The notes
The Gauntlet stopped making you play the same first waves again, the night at the Severino house can be told three ways, and gifts now reach your inbox.
Added
-
The Gauntlet starts one wave behind your best. Reach wave 10 and the next run begins at wave 9. The play card says where, and a row under the Gauntlet button lets you start lower, one wave at a time, or jump to From the beginning. You can never start higher than you’ve earned.
-
The story, three ways. Clear wave 16 and the next Gauntlet tells the same night again: the same men, the same fight, and a different reading of who did what and why. There are three lines, played in order and then round again. Each keeps its own best wave. Teo answers Nina’s messages now, and the phone shows what became of them.
-
A story log. Once you have seen a page or finished a line, a Story log link under the Gauntlet card lets you read the phone again from the top, turn a line’s pages again, replay its ending, or pick which finished line the next Gauntlet plays.
-
Your first wave is a real one. It is played at the strength of its own number, with its own roof and its own message from Nina. If it opens an act you haven’t seen on this device, that act’s story page plays first.
-
Gifts in your inbox. When we give you Marks or Foil, a note says how much. It never says why.
-
A Deepest wave board. The Board tab has two boards now: Best score, as before, and Deepest wave, which ranks how far each player got. Starting deep can’t beat a full run’s total score, so depth gets a board of its own.
-
The roof fights back. From wave 4, the family re-sets the roof every shaped wave against how you fight. Lean on the air and the platforms thin out; rush in and holes open in the floor; hit hard and slow and crates and pillars crowd you; mash and there are crates to trip on. It is the same size and shape for everyone, and it happens in the Gauntlet and Sparring only, never in versus or room fights.
-
Earned gear. Two items you can’t buy are yours to win: the Iron gloves (clear wave 16 in the Gauntlet), which ring a bell on every K.O., and the Sunflower ink (reach wave 20). They arrive in Customise the next time you open it.
Changed
- Enemies read ahead. A habit is answered when you pause, not only when you start it, and the windows they read in are wider. Keep repeating a move and they will be waiting for it.
- Marks and Rep pay for the men you fight. Reaching a wave pays nothing; beating the men in it does. A run that starts at wave 9 is paid for waves 9 onward, never for 1 to 8. Deeper waves still pay more each.
- Your best wave still counts the real wave. It is the real wave number, so the Deepest wave board and your rank read it as it was.
- Privacy and Terms were read again against how things work now. They say the wave a run began at is kept with your fights, that gifts show in your inbox, and what happens to Foil you’ve already spent if a payment is refunded. They are in force from 25 October 2026.
Fixed
- Prices and tax. The Terms no longer say prices include tax. Dodo works out any tax and shows the total on its checkout page before you pay.
