Straight Line
Online fights roll back, so a press shows at once even from far away, and the enemies learn to hop a sweep.
The notes
Fighting someone far away should not feel far away. The online line was rebuilt from the lobby up.
Added
- A faster line. A ranked fight from India now runs at 120 ticks a second instead of freezing for a few hundred milliseconds at a time.
- Rollback. Your presses show after four ticks instead of after the line’s round trip. The game guesses the other side’s buttons and quietly plays ticks again if it guessed wrong.
- Enemies hop a sweep. When they have read that your string ends in a sweep, one takes the hop to where the sweep will pass and comes down on you with a drop fist, with a tell, while the sweep recovers. Armoured, plated and throwing men do not.
Changed
- The guess window follows the line. Each screen notes how late the other’s buttons arrive and sizes its guess from that, so a jittery line costs fewer redraws.
- The line shrugs off lost packets. A button repeats a few times, and if the two screens ever disagree, the server’s copy settles it.
